Data points proliferate in the wake of our daily lives. Seemingly every aspect of human identity and behavior may be quantified, measured, and pressed into the service of politics or capital. Charts, diagrams, and maps help form our picture of the social body. Whether to communicate information or subvert its logic, artists, too, make use of the diagram. The exhibition A Measure of Humanity brings together works of art that probe the relationship between information and abstraction, visual form and meaning, the self and social. In various ways, they offer us models for thinking, and feeling, through pictures.

Our Friday morning focus is officially on the kids of Columbus. Give the carousel a whirl or hit the bounce houses free of charge. We’ve got something for kids of all ages with performances, Imagination Playground, crafts and games. If Mother Nature cooperates, we will even feature an inflatable water slide and kid's swimsuits are welcome.

Thank you to COTA for their support of Commons for Kids!

The next mezzanine art exhibit features artwork by Alison and Nicholas Nocera and will be on display through May and June. Check out this fantastic body of work on the second floor mezzanine at your North Market!

Nicholas Nocera and Alison Rose Nocera are the husband and wife behind Alison Rose Screen Printing in downtown Columbus, Ohio.

Nicholas is an illustrator and a musician, so his work often includes hints to songs or lyrics. He enjoys creating art prints as part of the alisonrose.com line, and gig posters for both local and national bands.

As an avid VHS collector, Alison started using found tapes to create unique highly textured pieces of work. Each piece is designed by hand, glue and loose glitter, micro beads, and sequins, laid by hand. These pieces are filled with nostalgia, texture, and unexpected beauty.

ALEC SOTH (b. 1969) has spent much of his career photographing the peculiarities of American life. His works are stark and clear images which confront the medium of photography and consciously consider the way it can or cannot tell stories, provoke reactions, and document contemporary realities. The Pizzuti Collection will exhibit over two dozen works from four different series, whose subjects range from brides at Niagara Falls, hermits living off the grid, Scenes from life along the Mississippi River, and teenagers at prom in Cleveland, Ohio.
