DESCRIPTION:Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board is excited to have free Black History Month programs every Tuesday of February at noon in the Ohio Statehouse Atrium! \nTuesday\, February 17 at noon\n“Exhuming the Archives: Early Black Settlement Communities of Cincinnati\, by The National Underground Railroad and Freedom Center” \nRecommended for ages 13 and up. \nThis presentation will explore the Social Justice Curator’s recent investigative efforts to learn more about the inhabitants who called Little Africa\, Bucktown\, and Little Bucktown home in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. By sourcing newspaper archives and census data\, she will demonstrate how she uses the resources of her public library to learn about the built environment around her.

DESCRIPTION:The Ohio Statehouse will be hosting\, for the first time ever\, free guided tours of the Statehouse with trick or treating incorporated. This will be an age-appropriate guided tour of the Ohio Statehouse with (not-so) spooky ghost stories. Wander the historic halls and receive a treat at every stop. Costumes encouraged! This experience is recommended for elementary age children. All children must be accompanied by an adult. \nThe tours will be offered at 10:00 am\, 11:00 am\, and 12:00 pm and each one will last about 30-45 minutes. The tours will start in the Museum Gallery on the ground floor of the Ohio Statehouse. Please RSVP to tours@ohiostatehouse.org by Wednesday\, October 29\, 2025. There are limited spots available. \nThe Statehouse will still offer standard guided tours starting in the Map Room\, on the hour\, every hour\, starting at 10:00 am with the last tour starting at 3:00 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Step into the dark and historic hallways of the Ohio Statehouse and take a glimpse at figures from the past as you follow conductors through the shadowy hallways and chambers of the Statehouse. \nThese lantern-lit tours are offered in 2025 on Friday\, Oct. 17; Saturday\, Oct. 18; Friday\, Oct. 24 and Saturday\, Oct. 25 at the state Capitol\, and depart through the darkened halls of the building every half hour between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. \nThis is a ticketed event\, and the historical tour is spooky and appropriate for ages twelve and older. \nTickets are available here. Adults are $16 and ages 12-17 are $8. \nAffordable event parking will be available in the Statehouse Underground Garage. \nCurious about what the past tours have looked like? Young was a trailblazer\, who became the first African American national park superintendent\, Colonel in the U.S. Army and military attaché. He also served as a mentor to many\, including students at Wilberforce University and future Army leaders like Benjamin O. Davis Sr.
