SUMMARY:"Creation's Stewards: A family-friendly climate action event"
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Earth Day with family fun and climate action at the Washington Gladden Social Justice Park on Sunday\, April 27. The free event\, “Creation’s Stewards\,” will start at 12:30 p.m. with a local food truck and with students from the Columbus College of Art & Design helping children create sidewalk chalk art – a way to get kids involved in environmental creativity. \nA program will begin at 1 p.m. with speakers addressing local issues of environmental sustainability and growing the city’s tree canopy. The program will conclude by 2:15 p.m. Parking without charge will be available adjacent to the park for those attending the event. \nThe park is located at the corner of East Broad Street and Cleveland Avenue in downtown Columbus. \nNamed for the Columbus pastor who was a national leader in the Social Gospel movement of the late 19th century\, the Washington Gladden Social Justice Park is the nation’s first park devoted to social justice. On its Pathway of Justice\, the park has dozens of guide stones engraved with inspiring quotes from social justice champions. The park also displays the unique sculpture\, “Our Single Garment of Destiny\,” inspired by the metaphor used by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.\, in his Letter from Birmingham Jail.
