Each October, we all see pink. From NFL games to pink ribbons in the grocery store, October is the month we recognize the fight against breast cancer. Did you even know that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month? AngelWorks, a local 501c3 that helps families with a child battling cancer, wants us to go gold each September to raise awareness for children and families fighting pediatric cancer.
With 43 children diagnosed each day, and one in eight of those succumbing to the disease, the need for support is very real. Later this month, AngelWorks is hosting a fundraising event at COSI on September 29. Go Gold Columbus! is a dinner party celebration with a special speech from Dr. Finlay of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Funds raised from the event will support AngelWorks’ programs, including Angel Wings (providing funeral funds for families who have lost a child), Project Claus (providing holiday gifts for families facing medical hardship), Release Party (a celebration for a family when their child completes treatment) and more. To reserve a table, contact Ellie Hite at ehite@myangelworks.org or 614.419.8438.
And keep your eye out for buildings alight in gold this September. AngelWorks is encouraging local businesses and property managers to Go Gold. And if your building hasn’t gone gold, encourage your property manager to consider making the effort in support of childhood cancer.
