The weather has turned cold and blustery just in time for Thanksgiving. That’s right; the holiday season is upon us. We will keep you posted on all of the holiday happenings downtown, but are starting this week just a ways down the road. Merry & Bright at Franklin Park Conservatory opened the holiday fun on November 19. With roughly 1900 poinsettias and 3800 seasonal plantings paired with holiday lights and more, you can celebrate the season with festive floral fun.
Favorite traditions like the 15-foot poinsettia tree and the Paul Busse Model Garden Railway return, enhanced with new offerings including a beautiful tree covered with 700 glass ornaments that were all created in the Franklin Park Hot Shop. You’ll also find two interactive, light-based works of art in the Cardinal Health Gallery. The pieces by Jamie Zigelbaum and Marcelo Coelho allow guests to control the digital displays using their body movements and touch. Cool.
For those who like a little healthy competition during the holidays, beyond some touch football on Thanksgiving afternoon, join in the Gingerbread Competition. This year’s theme is CELEBRATE COLUMBUS, and you are charged with rendering a favorite local landmark in gingerbread glory. Entries are due on November 26 or 27.
