The Nutcracker 2015The holidays are about spending time with families and friends, creating memories and traditions to cherish. Many families head downtown each holiday season to take in the sights, the lights and some favorite holiday events. Two top traditions are on deck this week, so mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate together.

BalletMet brings to life the story of Clara, the Nutcracker Prince, the Sugar Plum Fairies and more, all to a beautiful Tchaikovsky score. The Nutcracker has been a beloved Columbus holiday tradition since 1974, and for good reason. The magical ballet offers something for everyone with amazing dancing, phenomenal sets, stunning costumes and gorgeous music. The show runs at the Ohio Theatre from December 9 - 24, so don’t miss your chance to enjoy this special holiday tradition.

Another tradition beloved by many is ProMusica’s Messiah Side-by-Side Sing-Along. Usually singing along with the professionals is frowned upon at musical performances, but not at this holiday favorite event. Orchestra students and area music directors join the ProMusica musicians on stage, and a community of individuals, friends, families and church choirs sings together from Handel’s Messiah. It’s a beautiful, joyful holiday celebration you will want to add to your family’s holiday traditions. The Sing Along will be held December 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Southern Theatre.
