Haunted Statehouse 2016With cooler temperatures coming, you know that winter won’t be far off. Before you start dreading what isn’t even here, you might want to check out some Fall fun. What screams Fall more than Halloween? While many rural communities boast haunted hay rides and scary haunted houses, Columbus is the only city in Ohio where you’ll tour a Haunted Statehouse. Halloween Haunted Statehouse tours begin on October 14, and goblins grab the tickets quick so you’ll want to nab yours early.

The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board puts together spooky, yet family friendly evening tours. The special Halloween tours will take place Friday, October 14, Saturday, October 15, Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22. Tickets for the Haunted Statehouse Tours are $12 for adults and $6 for children under the age of 12. You must pre-order tickets, and they sell out early.

Tickets are limited to 40 people per tour, which will keep your tour group nice and small, but is the size limit because organizers must consider the Statehouse spirits that could join you? Tours will depart every half hour between 7 and 9 p.m., and even if you have been on the tour before, it’s worth checking out again because this year’s tours feature recently found evidence of paranormal activity at the Ohio Capitol. You’ll also hear a new story or two on this updated tour route.

You’ll hear a little history and legend as conductors lead visitors by lantern through the dimly lit limestone corridors of the Ohio Statehouse. This historical tour is spooky and appropriate for all members of the family, but it might be most suitable for phantom seekers over the age of 12.

Arrive early and write a “Ghost Post” to one of the Statehouse’s resident spirits, or enjoy art activities prior to your tour. The Statehouse Museum Shop will be open throughout the evening and will offer special Halloween merchandise available for purchase. More information about the tours is available at statehouseshop.com.
