Going to the movies is a classic Saturday night event. But during the summer months, the thought of sitting inside a cold, dark theatre may not quite fit the bill. What if you could take in a fantastic film under the stars and surrounded by the beauty of Topiary Park? We’re here to tell you that you can, and it is fabulous.
This Saturday, July 30, the From Book to Film series returns to Topiary Park for the second of four hot dates. The series features family-friendly films based on popular books loved by kids and adults alike. This week’s flick is Paddington, everyone’s favorite raincoat-clad bear. If you are a pre-planner, mark your calendars for August 27 (Cloudy with a Chance for Meatballs) and September 24 (The Hunger Games).
Everyone loves to snack at the movies, so don’t miss the free popcorn. If you want something more substantial, bring your own picnic or grab something from the featured food truck, Street Thyme for amazing burgers and sandwiches. The film starts at dusk, but come early to grab a great spot, take in the park’s beauty, and eat a bite.
Discovery Special Improvement District presents the film series, along with community partners Columbus Metropolitan Library, Discovery District Civic Association, Friends of Topiary Park, Motorists Mutual Insurance Company, State Auto Insurance Companies and Gateway Film Center.
If you love movies adapted from literature, Gateway Film Center shows another Book to Film series in cooperation with the library throughout the summer. Admission is free with any library card.
