Creating Identity from Place

Got big summer plans? How about super close and free? Check out every day Ohio beauty at Creating Identity from Place. Ohio Art Council’s Riffe Gallery opens the show on July 26.  Also, think about grabbing some nosh after the opening reception or while the show runs. If you read through to the end, you’ll get chance to win some grub from one of the restaurants on the Downtown Concierge.

Just so you know, these Ohio Plein Air Society artists hang outdoors and capture landscapes. The result? Creating Identity from Place showcases 73 paintings and drawings. Come on down to the opening reception on July 26. Along with great art, take in classical guitar during the festivities. On Friday, July 27, curator Charlotte Gordon of Southern Ohio Museum will take you on a special tour of the artwork. Mark your calendar because the show ends October 13.

So, if you get super inspired, sign up for a pastel drawing workshop. Featured artists from Creating Identity from Place will lead you through the downtown landscape. Then, you might just want to create your own interpretation of Downtown.

Drawing not your thing, but still want to interpret your outdoor surroundings? Riffe Gallery has you covered there, too. As part of the exhibit, you can also focus on nature through writing. Poet and Artist Diane Kendig will lead this workshop.

Uh-oh, how to get there? The OAC Riffe Gallery sits smack dab in the middle of Downtown at 77 S. High Street. Walk in and behold Creating Identity from place and so much more. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday. Pssst…it offers a great mid-day escape from the office.  Just so you know, Café Napolitana is a quick walk away, too. They’re open for lunch and dinner. Tell us what you like to see when you’re outside taking a stroll downtown, and we’ll enter you to win a little piece of the pie.
