Resolutions to Get in Shape

This resolution tends to figure prominently in most lists. Perhaps that’s because the holidays tend to make our figures more prominent. If you’re ready to pump some iron or get your sweat on, you’ll find plenty of options downtown. From Powerhouse Gym on Long Street to the YMCA, Fit Club and the Arena District Athletic Club, you can choose a place that feels right to you. Indeed, the experts say you need commit for two months for it to become a habit. Come on, what else do you have going on during the cold days of January and February?

Om, I’d Rather Do Yoga

If you prefer a chaturanga to a bicep curl or dead lifts, get your mind and body right with a new-for-the-year yoga practice. You’ll find yoga, barre and pilates at Seven Studios, or you can sweat your butt of at Tracey Gardner Method TGM. Find inner peace at Replenish: The Spa, or power up at V Power. Or, on Thursday nights head to the Columbus Museum of Art for Yoga@CMA, an evening of yoga (6 - 7 p.m.) and meditation (7 - 7:30 p.m.). The classes are donation-based and rotate weekly through the different galleries.

A New Look You

Is it time for a new do? If the winter blahs make you long for shorter hair or a freshly facial-ed face, you are in luck. Just schedule some time at Studio 33 Salon & Spa or Square One Salon and Day Spa for some lock love. Or hit Juvly Aesthetics to turn back time.

Explore the Arts

Expand your horizons by taking in an arts scene that has been garnering national attention. The Columbus Museum of Art simply rocks with outstanding permanent and special exhibitions (quick, the Beyond Impressionism exhibit ends on January 21). The CCAD Beeler Gallery offers exhibitions (the next one, How well do you behave? IN THE FLAT FIELD opens February 1), performances, workshops, screenings and more. Take advantage of having one of the country’s preeminent art college right in your backyard. And, Ohio State’s Urban Arts Space, Angela Meleca Gallery and the Columbus Cultural Arts Center add outstanding options to the list.

Explore Cuisine

There are too many outstanding places to eat downtown, so we’ll just get you started. Hit some oldies but goodies like Due Amici, Latitude 41, Jack’s Diner and El Arepazo. Then explore some new favorites like Pat & Gracie’s, Tiger + Lily, Cravings Cafe and Jack Ruby Steakhouse. Find fan favorites by category: pizza (Cafe Napolitana), burgers (Ringside), coffee (Cafe Brioso and Hemingway), sandwiches (Si Señor Sandwiches and More), tacos (Condado and El Camino), beer (Platform, Elevator and Pins Mechanical). Basically, you can find a new spot to hit each day of the week and twice on Sunday. And all that exploration may circle you right back around to the top of this list. But, hey, life is short!
