Cafe Phenix has developed quite the following downtown. But, owners Gary McConnell and Brittney Barnhart wanted to offer even more. So, they opened Phenix Bistro down the street at 51 East Gay Street. Fans of Phenix (and fans to be) will find even more fresh, delicious food options. Plus, you can start your day with some fabulous breakfast; it’s the meal of champions.

Phenix Bistro opened a few weeks ago, with more space, more menu options and more yum. While Cafe Phenix will still be a great go-to spot for coffee, tea and baked goods, Phenix Bistro fills your belly with a wide array of sandwiches, soups, salads and breakfast fare. But, if you struggle with indecisiveness, you may be in trouble. With 31 sandwich choices - all under $10, no less - you may find it hard to narrow things down. Of course, that’s about a month full of choices, so you could just go each day for a month and try them all.

Favorites from Cafe Phenix remain on the menu, like the Croque Monsieur and the Croque Madame. But, you’ll find a fantastic variety of new choices, all fresh and hand-crafted.

“We want people to have a choice and to not be locked in just one zone,” said Gary. “We offer a nice variety. It may take a little longer, but you know that everything you are getting is fresh.”

When you come with a group, then, everyone can find something palette-pleasing. And, if you want to expand out from sandwiches, you’ll find outrageous soups, salads, quiche and more. Or, see if there is a daily special.

“The new space lets me do more outside-the-box specials. I like to have something different. A surprise every once in awhile,” added Gary.

And to start they day, try the omelets, brioche French toast, waffles, pancakes or biscuits with sausage gravy. Phenix Bistro opens at 7 a.m., so there is plenty of time to grab something delicious before the work day begins. Hours are 7 a.m. - 7 p.m Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Plans are in the works for a dinner menu soon.

So, now that you’re dying to give it a try, be sure to check out today’s Blue Plate Special.
