We tasted a bit of summer before the rains blew through last night, but warm, sunny skies will return. We promise. What better way to celebrate than with Pearl Market? The Market opens in just one short week, and will soon offer fun times every Tuesday and Friday, 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. through Fall. We’ve got some scoop on what to expect, and also want to let you know how to nab some Pearl Market freebies.
First, we must say, it’s not your imagination next Tuesday when you hear bagpipes and drums, nor are your eyes playing tricks on you if you see a super tall walking tomato. Our stilt-walking tomato will escort the Columbus Police and Fire Pipe and Drums around Broad, High, Gay and Third streets before entering the Market to officially kick off summer. What’s even better? A veggie brigade that hands out reusable shopping bags to passersby…just in time for a little Pearl Market shopping.
Now remember, it may have been 90 degrees last weekend, but that can’t make up for the frigid spring. Fruit and veggie offerings will multiply as we see more warm weather, but our farmers will likely bring a bounty of fresh herbs and lettuces and even plants if you want to plant your own garden. Some of the farmers will even have jams, jellies and breads for you to take home to the fam.
After you say hello to the farmers, wander through Pearl and Lynn Alleys to say howdy-do to our merchants. You’ll recognize some of the vendors that have been in the Market for a while like Great Harvest Bread, The Sweater Lady, The Jewelry Whisperer, Two Roasting Joes, Spiral Touch and more, but make sure you also check out some of our new folks like 8 Sisters Bakery, Ohio City Pasta, Paws of Love Treats and Root 23 (simple syrups). A wide variety farmers and merchants come every week, so plan frequent visits. Just like last year, a food truck or two will offer quick grab and go options if you need to eat on the run.
See you soon.
