Starting a business is tough. And growing a business can be even harder. Just ask Jamila and Angelo Byers of Goodies Galore whose business began out of a love for baking sweets for family and friends. But their hard work in building a bakery business out of their home is getting an incredible boost thanks to the KickStart Columbus program.

Goodies Galore is the most recent winner of the KickStart Columbus business plan contest presented by Columbus City Council, the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation, the Economic and Community Development Institute, and Capital Crossroads Special Improvement District. Three final contestants pitched their business plan to a panel of judges for a chance to win free rent for one year plus other business-related prizes. Goodies Galore edged out the competition which included a pet supply store and a men and women's clothing boutique.

Goodies plans to use the retail space to expand their product offering and will feature a make-your-own cupcake bar with rotating flavors. Their most popular product? Cupcake bouquets which come in three different sizes and are completely customized to your desire. They have made bouquets for The Ohio State University (and the University of Michigan); they are a lovely and delicious treat for your next tailgate party.

Look for Goodies to open at 267 South Third Street next to Sweet Simpliciteas in the coming months. In the meantime, give them a try through their website.
