The sixth annual Independents' Day kicks off this Friday with Nina West emceeing the opening celebration, which includes live music by Forest & the Evergreens and Tin Armor, food trucks, and craft vendors. But ID2013 will be bigger and better. The shindig expands from one to three days this year, and we want to give some insider info before someone tries to hijack your weekend with something stupid like hanging out at the mall.
Unless you've been traveling abroad (or maybe living off the grid) for the last six years, you probably know that Independents' Day celebrates and develops independent culture, commerce and creativity with a kick-butt festival. Peeps converge in the center of it all - right downtown, to take in live music on multiple stages, load up on some very cool one-of-a-kind artisan crafts, chomp on amazing food, and savor local brews.
This year, FFOCOL (Film Festival of Columbus) will provide a film component to the celebration showcasing seasoned and rising filmmakers and extraordinary work from around the world all while raising awareness of Columbus and Central Ohio as a fimmaking destination.
If all of this proves a little too much, The Hills Market and Due Amici and will host Brunch and Bloody Mary's on Sunday to help wind things down; however, on the chance you are still raring to go, brunch will be followed by urban bobsled cart racing and live acoustic music.
