Downtown Columbus

At Right Now Downtown, we like to find cool activities that you won't have to take out a second mortgage to enjoy. And it’s a bonus when we find Downtown stuff that allows you to keep your wallet in your pocket.

Did you know that the Columbus Historical Society moved downtown?  The Society was founded in 1990 by a group of passionate Columbus historians, and now they are just a hop and a skip across the river at the main COSI entrance. Admission won’t cost you anything to CHS, so wander around all you want. COSI even offers a discount on Family Friday Night, which is the last Friday of the month. Check out their rates online.

Keep your money at home if you head to the The People’s House aka the Ohio Statehouse. Well, you might want a small stash to hit the gift shop or café.

Next, plan to block off a chunk of time, but no cash, to feed your cultural and artistic side. Numerous galleries around downtown offer no-cost admission, including the Vern Riffe Gallery, OSU Urban Art Space, Fresh A.I.R. Gallery and even the Columbus Museum of Art all day Sunday.

Combine art, history, exercise and frugality as you check out Columbus ArtWalks. These self-guided walking maps and audio tours cover a variety of Columbus neighborhoods, and there is even one that focuses right Downtown.

We’re sure there is more, but we just wanted to get you started. Don’t forget to let us know if there are other places to add to the list.
