Sometimes we miss letting you know about something cool downtown, and that makes us feel bad. Every year, we start thinking about Halloween in October and note that the Ohio Statehouse offers some pretty freaky fabulous haunted tours. But by the time we are ready to run a "Here's What To Do This Halloween" story, the tickets have all been nabbed.
So, though it's still early September, with Labor Day just behind us, we want you to start thinking about Halloween fun, because the 2014 Haunted Statehouse Tour tickets are now on sale. The tours will take place on Friday, October 17; Saturday, October 18; Friday, October 24; and Saturday, October 25. Tours depart every half hour between 7 and 9 p.m.
Statehouse staff members and volunteers conduct the tours, sharing history and legend of the Ohio Statehouse by lantern light. This year's tour features some new stories and an updated tour route that "frames the Ohio Statehouse in a more formidable light." Intriguing. The tour is most appropriate for those ages 12 and older, though it is described as spooky but not truly terrifying.
There are special activities to be enjoyed before each tour, and the Statehouse Museum Shop will be open offering candy apples, caramel corn, cookies and more.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12, and only 40 are available for each time slot. You can purchase tickets at statehouseshop.com (click "Seasonal"); visit the Statehouse Museum Shop; or call 614.728.9234.
