This week Mayor Coleman sent a “how-do-ya-do” to the NBA just letting them know that we in Columbus might just be interested in becoming the home of an NBA team. But in the meantime, Columbus is welcoming another professional sports team to the 614. The Ohio Machine, a Major League Lacrosse team, will begin play in Columbus this season.
To celebrate the newest hometown heroes, stop by the Ohio Machine “Lacrosse Launch Party” on Wednesday, May 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Columbus Commons. This shindig, hosted by The Ohio Machine, 200Columbus, the Greater Columbus Sports Commission and Experience Columbus, will include some yummy food truck vittles, live music, the chance to meet some of the best lacrosse players in the world, and the chance to be part of history.
At 12:45 p.m., all those in attendance will attempt to set the world record for the largest lacrosse game played (with “200” total players, in honor of Columbus’ 200th birthday). If you want to be part of the four shifts of two teams (each shift will last about five minutes), bring your own lacrosse stick and preregister here. When you register, you receive two complimentary tickets to the Machine’s home opener on May 19 at 8 p.m. at Ohio Wesleyan’s Selby Stadium. Each of the 200 participants will also receive a Bicentennial t-shirt from the team.
