Did you know that the average car goes unused for at least 22 hours out of each day? What if you calculated the cost of your car payment on the actual usage? If you turn over 450 bucks every month toward a car payment, it would cost $180 for each 24-hours that you actually use your car. Seems like a lotta jack, and that doesn't take into account gas, insurance or maintenance. But car2go lets you pay for the cost of a car only when you really need it.

CoGo gave CBus a taste of bike sharing, and now car2go intends to do the same thing for peeps who need four-wheel transportation. It's all pretty simple, and just think about never paying for insurance or a tank of gas again - ever. Just sit with that for a minute... Think of all the things you could do with 400 or 500 bucks a month.

Car2go car sharing launches on October 26. Columbus is the first city in the Midwest, and it makes perfect sense that downtown was part of the launch.

"Columbus is a great, diverse demographic that car2go wants, and downtown is making the transition to a live/work space. It's an urban center that everyone expects it to be," said Nick Hill, Location Manager of car2go.

For a limited time, all new members who use the promotion code CBUS will receive 30 free minutes of car2go drive time, and the one-time $35 membership fee will be waived. For more info, hit the car2go website.

So, just how much does it cost? If you needed a car to run an hour's worth of errands, that would be under 14 bucks, but if you only needed a car for a quick trip, you would pay 37 cents per minute. Heck, that might cost less than parking, and oh yea, parking is also included as long as you park legally. So all you gotta do is pick up a car and park it when you're finished with it.

For those who have never considered car sharing, think of the money this could give you to spend on all kinds of cool stuff. And for those of you who have been waiting to throw away your keys, mark October 26 on your calendar.
