Would you believe you can hit the beach right downtown in landlocked Columbus? Where is this urban oasis? The Discovery District Beach Volleyball court is open and ready for play. You’ll find the sandy beaches of the Discovery District on Grant Avenue, just across from The Hills Market Downtown.
With 200 tons of sand, the Discovery District Beach Volleyball court will be available for both sand volleyball leagues and pick-up games. Volleyball leagues are being organized by SportsMonster. You can find more information at their site www.sportsmonster.net. League play begins in the next two weeks so register today.
SportsMonster will also host “Meet-Up Nights” where players can sign up to play in open games. Hills Market Downtown also plans some special events throughout the summer when the court will be open for play so watch www.hillsmarket.com for more details.
If you don’t feel like channeling your inner Misty May-Trainer, you can grab some grub and a cocktail at The Hills Market Downtown or The Grass Skirt and watch the fun. But hurry down; the volleyball court will be dismantled on August 22. Use of the Grant Avenue parking lot on which the court was built was generously donated by the Columbus College of Art & Design.
