The Riffe Gallery is celebrating its silver anniversary. Luckily for our readers, you receive the gift. The anniversary celebration coincides with the opening of Impressive Impressions: Selections from Ohio University's Kennedy Museum of Art Print Collection. The party is planned for May 1 from 5 - 7 p.m. Join in toasting the artists, curators and patrons who make the Riffe Gallery an outstanding showcase for Ohio art. There is no cost to attend this or any events at the Riffe Gallery.
Impressive Impressions runs from May 1 - July 13 and invites viewers to understand the foundation of the permanent collection of the Kennedy Museum as well as the history of printmaking. More than 50 contemporary prints created between 1960 and 2000 will be exhibited at the Riffe Gallery, curated by Donald Roberts, an Ohio University emeritus professor of art.
After the opening reception and 25th Anniversary Celebration on May 1, there will be a free tour of the exhibition led by Ohio University's Kennedy Museum Curator, Petra Kralickova, on May 2 from noon - 1 p.m. On Sunday, June 1 from 2 - 4 p.m., families are invited to participate in a Free Family Workshop with members of the Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative. Supplies are provided, and children six to 17 are welcome with an adult companion. And on June 5 from 5:30 - 7 p.m., guests are invited to hear poet Paula J. Lambert for an hour of poetry readings followed by an open mic period. Visit the Riffe Gallery website to register for both the family workshop and the poetry reading.
