As the quest for indoor activities continues, here are some off-the-beaten-path arts events worth a visit on a cold winter’s day.


ROY G BIV Gallery presents their 14
th annual exhibition of the best photography, video and digital art by artists in the Buckeye state. Head to the Shot Tower Gallery at Fort Hayes now through February 21 to view the 49 works selected by this year’s jurors, Aspen Mays (Assistant Professor of Art at OSU) and Shannon Benine (Assistant Professor of Photography and Multimedia at CCAD). The works were chosen to represent innovative and unorthodox artwork of the Midwest. If you would like to hear from the artists themselves, stop by the Artists’ Panel Discussion on February 5 from 1 – 2 p.m.

Quilt National ‘13

The Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery is now presenting Quilt National ’13, a biennial juried exhibition of innovative art quilts produced by the Dairy Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center. You won’t want to miss this eclectic collection of works from talented fiber artists from around the world. These fabulous quilts have never been exhibited before. The artists use quilting as a medium to express their inner voice or to respond to concerns about the world, environment or political issues.

The exhibit runs January 30 – April 13, with an opening day on January 30 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; a special tour of the exhibition with Quilt National ’13 director Kathleen M. Dawson on January 31 from noon – 1 p.m.; a Free Family Workshop with quilter Kate Gorman on February 23 from 2 – 4 p.m.; and join Katie Daley for a workshop to stitch together snippets of poetic phrases and metaphors into a narrative poem on April 10 from 5:30 – 8 p.m.

This is a chance to take in the work from these passionate men and women who share their techniques and concepts through classes and workshops that are open to members of the Columbus community of all ages.
