Tis the week to give thanks. Give thanks for family and friends, for delicious food and potent drinks, for freedom and football. And, we give thanks for Downtown Columbus and all it has to offer. 1. Thanks for the Arts Scene.
Columbus loves the arts. And, fans of the arts love Downtown. If visual art is your thing, view the latest at Columbus Museum of Art, CCAD’s Beeler Gallery, Angela Meleca Gallery, Hawk Galleries, Riffe Gallery, Cultural Arts Center, Fresh A.I.R. Gallery, Blockfort Gallery, and… Well, you get the idea. If music is your thing, enjoy the beautiful sounds of Columbus Symphony Orchestra, ProMusica or the wide variety of performances brought in by CAPA. (Don’t miss CSO’s Holiday Pops next week). Plus, delve into the beauty of BalletMet, stage performances from CATCO, CAPA, MadLab, or classes in the arts from Cultural Arts Center, CCAD, Thurber House and more.
2. Thanks for COTA’s CBUS
Do you like to be taken for a free ride? COTA’s CBUS circulator bus gets around, from German Village to Downtown and through the Short North. Hop on. Hop off. And get where you want to go without spending a red cent or having to worry about parking. Once you get hooked on alternative transportation, see if you are eligible for C-pass, or try out CoGo Bike Share. Try leaving the keys (and car) at home.
3. Thanks for Happy Hours.
We don’t need to say more, but we will. When you need to unwind from a long day, week or month, grab a friend or two and head out for happy. Need beer? Try Elevator Brewery & Draught Haus, Platform Beer Co. or Wolf’s Ridge Brewing (And, a beer-lover in your life would love a Columbus Brew Adventures Tour in his or her stocking). Is bourbon more your thing? Don’t miss Buckeye Bourbon House. Need something tropical with an umbrella? Head on over to Grass Skirt. Looking for a great spot to be happy while watching sports? 4. Thanks for the Columbus Blue Jackets
While Columbus always bleeds scarlet and gray (Beat Xichigan!), now we also march with the Columbus Blue Jackets. First, the CBJ are the only pro team in town. Plus, they kick ice and ranked first in the Metropolitan Division. If you haven’t spent an evening at Nationwide Arena, you need to nab some tickets and go see Cam Atkinson, the Breadman and Bob. You’ll realize the Buckeyes aren’t the only game in town.
5. Thanks for our SID Ambassadors
You’ve seen them around town, shoveling snow, cleaning up the muck, watering flowers, and power washing sidewalks and graffiti. Our ambassadors are here for you, so just give them a call if you see something amiss. Did you know that they will escort you to your car on those nights you work late? Yep, that too. Basically these everyday heroes help make downtown a cleaner and safer place, which is something well worth being thankful for.
