The arts scene in Columbus has been getting national recognition, and for good reason. Each day, each week, each month, you can find something to scratch your art-loving itch. There are three upcoming events well worth checking out, where you can explore art in different ways.
BalletMet wraps up its season with the World Premiere of Edward Liang’s magical Sleeping Beauty, set to Tchaikovsky’s score. With stunning costuming, beautiful scenery and gorgeous choreography, you’ll see Princess Aurora’s story in a whole new way. The ballet runs May 6 - 8 at the Ohio Theatre.
Each of us interprets art in our own way, but getting to hear about work from the artist himself or herself brings another level of understanding. On May 7 at the Columbus Museum of Art, Lino Tagliapietra, world-renowned glass artist from Venice, Italy will join art historian Annegreth Nill to discuss his work. This is a rare opportunity to hear from the artist of the Columbus Museum of Art’s masterpiece, Endeavor, which is now installed in the Huntington Atrium of the new Walter Wing. No registration is required, and the talk is free with admission.
Next week you have a chance to see the work of up-and-coming artists from the Columbus College of Art & Design at Chroma, a showcase of the best student works from all 10 majors. The event is free and open to the public. Enjoy the art, grab a bite from a food truck, enjoy a craft beer from the cash bar, or even get a temporary tattoo. No reservations are needed, but please RSVP on Facebook. The show runs from 4 - 9 p.m. at 60 Cleveland Ave.
