Experience Art: Golf and Glass

Get ready to experience great art downtown. How do you experience art? Well, while all art should be an experience, these events let you be part of the party. So, mark your calendars for these unique art experiences coming down the pike from Blockfort Gallery and Franklin Park Conservatory. And, each of these events offers the opportunity to engage your less-than-enthusiastic-about-art friends and kids. It’s the art equivalent of sneaking veggies into your pasta dinner.

Experience Art as Golf

Head to Blockfort Gallery for some mini-golf. Mini-golf? Yes, Blockfort hosts BHoles, a golf course with holes designed by artists. For two weekends, September 14 - 15 and September 21 - 22 from noon - 6 p.m., bring the family to play 18 holes of mini-golf. Each wacky hole is an art installation. So, play with your art in a whole (hole) new way. And, we’re guessing you won’t see any giant clown heads with a gaping mouth. But, you never know. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. And your round of golf benefits the artists who created all the fun. If you work up an appetite, refreshments are available. WEBSITE.

Get Great Glass

If you have never checked out the glass Hot Shop at Franklin Park Conservatory, you have missed out. And now this fall, you can visit the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch. Browse the beautiful glass pumpkins hand crafted by local glass artists. And, if you see one you love, they are available for sale. So, get new fall decor just as the weather is finally changing.

Or, design your own glass pumpkin during a 15- minute glassblowing session. They run from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on September 21 - 23. For $60 ($54 for members), create your own glasswork guided by an expert gaffer. You don’t need any previous experience, but please register in advance. Or, sign up for Hot Glass Studio Nights: Pumpkins held Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6 - 9 p.m., through November 1. Then, the glass-blowing fun continues in the Hot Shop through December with daily demonstrations. Stop by to watch professional gaffers-master glass-blowers transform molten glass into finished art.
