Downtown Columbus

Columbus, Ohio—National trends show talented, up-and-comers demand access, connectivity and flexibility, which help downtowns thrive, but what is necessary for Columbus to achieve true Downtown Dividends?

Capital Crossroads and Discovery Special Improvement Districts welcome Lee Fisher, CEO of CEOs for Cities, to address these issues on November 19 at 4 p.m. at Columbus State Community College, Center for Workforce Development. Lee will talk about the huge economic shifts, which occur with some surprisingly small changes.

“Working and living downtown offers many benefits for Columbus,” said Cleve Ricksecker, executive director of Capital Crossroads and Discovery Special Improvement Districts. “A city with a healthy downtown, for example, can pay a green dividend if people take transit, bicycle, walk and car pool instead of driving alone in a personal vehicle.”

The event is free and open to the public.

CEOs for Cities is a nationally focused nonprofit working to help cities move forward. It has offices in Washington D.C., Cleveland and Chicago. Fisher heads up the organization, and will keynote the annual meeting for Capital Crossroads and Discovery Special Improvement Districts.

Capital Crossroads and Discovery SIDs will also recognize community members for their outstanding contributions to Downtown. For Outstanding Service:  Puffin Foundation West, Capital Crossroads SID; Denny Griffith, Discovery Special Improvement District. For Outstanding Aesthetic Contribution: RAW Gallery, Capital Crossroads SID; City of Columbus, Ohio Department of Transportation and Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission for their collaboration on the Cultural Wall in the King-Lincoln District, Discovery SID. For Outstanding Achievement: COTA for the launch of the CBUS, Capital Crossroads SID; Cristo Rey High School, Discovery Special Improvement District.

Capital Crossroads and Discovery Special Improvement Districts cover 538 acres in downtown Columbus.
