As we are about to bid adieu to 2016, Motorists Insurance Group has made a big announcement, which will make an impact in the Discovery District for years to come. They plan to invest nearly $20 million on a property near its Broad Street headquarters in the Discovery District.
The development will house 68 apartments as well as ground-floor retail. There will also be more than 100 parking spaces included in the project. The exciting announcement comes on the heels of other significant development in the area, including the new wing of the Columbus Museum of Art and the fantastic renovation of the Columbus Metropolitan Main Library.
Construction is expected to start early next year on the land, which is currently used as surface parking lots, and is expected to be complete by spring of 2019. The company explained the decision by noting the need for more downtown housing and the expectation that the economy is positioned to support such a development. The area is home to many employees and students at Motorists, Grant Medical Center, Columbus College of Art and Design and Franklin University.
Motorists also plans further development in coming years in the area between their headquarters and Topiary Park. It’s sure to be exciting to watch the neighborhood develop to its full potential.
