Sometimes you DO want to be taken for a (free) ride. May 1 - 7, COTA will be offering free bus service citywide to mark the launch of their completely redesigned bus network. Leave your change in your pocket, but hop on COTA and give it a whirl. Whether you’re a frequent-rider or a newbie, this is one free ride you won’t want to miss.
Central Ohioans have relied on public transportation since horse-drawn streetcars were in vogue at the time of the Civil War. Today, COTA provides more than 19 million passenger trips each year. That’s good, but COTA is about to get even better. The overhaul will provide simplified routes, increased bus frequency, more connections to more locations, reduced bus congestion in the downtown area, and more bus service to more employment opportunities.
“We’re excited to launch the redesign, which will provide public transit to more people and more jobs in central Ohio,” said W. Curtis Stitt, COTA President/CEO. “The new COTA network will be easier to understand and navigate, and will serve an unmet demand for transit access seven days a week.”
The redesign will mean some changes. Frequent riders have likely noticed the signs that have been placed at every bus stop highlighting planned service changes. Those changes will go into effect on May 1, so be prepared. You can visit COTA.com/TSR to view the new schedules and to plan your routes.
