Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery will present Artists of the Winding Road A-Z,, an exhibition spotlighting the community of creatives guiding Appalachian Ohio to civic recovery and renovation through the arts, from April 7-April 23. Painters, ceramists, and sculptors from Athens to Zanesville create a wide range of contemporary art and fine craft. Seven of those artists come together in Artists of the Winding Road A-Z, curated by Susan K. Gottlieb of Zanesville, Ohio. This exhibition includes free opportunities for the public to interact and learn about the artists, their processes, and the region’s influence on their work.
The Opening Reception for the exhibition will be held on Thursday, April 7 form 5 - 7 p.m. Guests can mingle with the artists and other art enthusiasts at this free event. Then on Friday, April 8 from noon - 1 p.m., Susan K. Gottleib will offer a guided Curator's Tour, sharing stories behind the artwork.
Four of the featured artists will also present Gallery Talks on April 11, 12, 15 and 21 from noon - 1 p.m. Bring a brown bag lunch and enjoy hearing from Paul Emory (Painter), Alan Cottrill (Bronze Sculptor), John Taylor-Lehman (Found Object Sculptor) and Michael Seiler (Painter).
Additionally, two artists will present live Artist Demonstrations. Yan Sun (Live Portrait Painting) will present on April 13, 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., working on the portrait of Ohio State Senator Troy Balderson. Then on April 22, from noon - 1 p.m., Ohio Speaker of the House Cliff Rosenberger will sit for his portrait. Finally, on April 19, noon - 1 p.m., Athens-based artist Kelsey Duncan will demonstrate basic techniques for ceramic production, discuss his own artistic vision, and share inspirations behind his evocative work.
