Summer has been a wee bit soggy, but a rain cancellation means you still have a chance to take in a very cool event. Columbus Landmarks is hosting Buildings Reborn-Municipal Light Plant on August 10 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. The event was originally scheduled for mid-July, but Ohio skies rained on the parade. You won’t want to miss this chance to see the historic Municipal Light Plant building, once the coal-fired power plant, as it undergoes a true transformation. Tickets are $75 - $100 and are available here. Once on the Most-Endangered Building list, the 1903 Municipal Light Plant will soon house beautiful commercial space for Garth’s Auctioneer & Appraisers and other tenants. The industrial-style space incorporates fifty-foot high ceilings, steel beams, brick walls and clerestory windows, plus industrial relics including crane hooks, a giant coal hopper and the 206-foot iconic smokestack. The work has been partially funded by Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credits. This special preview event offers a first peek at this spectacular space with construction tours, plus live music from Arnett Howard & Friends, a summer food spread, local craft beer, wine and a live auction by Garth’s. Come celebrate Columbus history being preserved and given new energy through creative re-imagination.
