Our Green Lawn Cemetery series starts with the genesis and popularization of the nineteenth century Rural Cemetery Movement, with a special focus on Green Lawn. Typically placed just outside the city, rural cemeteries were characterized by landscape gardening, natural topography, curvilinear paths, and abundance of trees. Mirroring societal changes in attitudes towards death and nature, rural cemeteries were designed to provide a sense of serenity, contemplation, and natural beauty.
