Kids Get Jazzy

By Heather Brown | 27 Jun, 2017

Summer is here, and the living is easy. Kids love every minute of pool visits, bike rides and, if we’re honest, mindless screen time. If want to slip a little culture in with the typical summer fare, PBJ & Jazz at Topiary Park hits the perfect note. The next concert is July 8, a great way to spend your post-Fourth of July weekend.

PBJ & Jazz is brought to you by the Jazz Arts Group, Friends of Topiary Park, Friends of the Library and the Columbus Museum of Art. That’s right, you’ll find music, outdoor beauty, books and art all brought together into one fabulous afternoon.

The event is free and kicks off with family story time at 11 a.m. in the main branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Then head out to the library’s back yard–the beautiful Topiary Park for the concert at noon, featuring Bright Moments Quartet. The concert is hosted by Rebecca Ogden, a music educator who helps to introduce kids to live music performances. Picnicking is encouraged; PB&J is optional. After the show, stick around for a hands-on art activity from the Columbus Museum of Art.

Once you fall in love with all the fun, you’ll want to mark your calendars for the last two performances: The Liz Woolley Band on August 12 and ZC7: Latin Jazz Experience on September 9. All three shows will delight, and assuage a little mindless-summer guilt.
