Continuing the Dream

Each January, we recognize again the greatness of Martin Luther King, Jr., whose dream of a color-blind society remains a source of inspiration in a difficult world. This year, you can join in the celebration at two events downtown.

On January 12, from noon – 1 p.m., head to Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 East Broad Street, for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission Annual Commemorative Celebration. Through their awards program, the Commission recognizes the achievements and service of individuals and organizations in Ohio which reflect the teachings and example of Dr. King. These honorees are committed to helping others through service and with passion. Just as Dr. King sought racial, social and economic justice, this event celebrates those who fight to improve society and to continue Dr. King’s legacy.

Then on Monday, January 16, plan to attend the 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Breakfast at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Doors to the Batttelle Grand Ballroom open at 7 a.m., and the program begins at 7:30 a.m. The public is invited to join thousands of diverse supporters to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy. This year’s keynote speaker is former Mayor Michael B. Coleman, who was the first African-American mayor of Columbus and the longest serving.
