Discovery District Placemaking

“Placemaking inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of every community.” —Project for Public Spaces

More than 400 residents, students, employees and visitors in the Discovery District shared their thoughts in a series of community engagement events to develop The Discovery District Placemaking Plan. What emerged was a vision statement defining the “Essence” of the Discovery District:

  • A place for knowledge
  • A place for creativity
  • A place for discovery
  • A place for transformation
  • A place for diversity
  • A place where historic meets contemporary

When finalized in May, the plan will spell out goals and action steps to guide public improvements and placemaking opportunities for the eastern side of downtown where art, knowledge and culture converge.

MKSK has created visualizations of placemaking opportunities, including a Discovery Trail connecting key cultural institutions using art that tells a story and enhanced streetscapes.
